Ormulum Wiki

Orrm developed a series of letters for his writing which were not all rendered in Unicode until its version 14.0 published in September 2021. This makes their inclusion in a wiki difficult as editors have limited control over how texts are rendered depending on whether fonts with those letters are available.

The insular g used for [j] may be represented by ʒ 0292 LATIN SMALL LETTER EZH from Unicode 1.1, ȝ 021D LATIN SMALL LETTER YOGH from Unicode 3.0 or ᵹ 1D79 LATIN SMALL LETTER INSULAR G from Unicode 4.1. To represent [ɣ], it can be combined with ◌ͪ 036A COMBINING LATIN SMALL LETTER H: ʒͪ or ȝͪ or ᵹͪ. However, only ᵹ 1D79 LATIN SMALL LETTER INSULAR G has an equivalent combining character for stacking, see below.

The flat-top g used for [ɡ] may be represented by ꟑ A7D1 LATIN SMALL LETTER CLOSED INSULAR G from Unicode 14.0.

The carolingian g used for [dʒ] may be represented by g U+0067 LATIN SMALL LETTER G from Unicode 1.0 or ɡ U+0261 LATIN SMALL LETTER SCRIPT G from Unicode 1.1. However, only g U+0067 LATIN SMALL LETTER G has an equivalent combining character for stacking, see below.

The double thorn can be represented by ꟓ ‎A7D3 LATIN SMALL LETTER DOUBLE THORN from Unicode 14.0.

The double wynn can be represented by ꟕ ‎A7D5 LATIN SMALL LETTER DOUBLE WYNN from Unicode 14.0.

The barred thorn can be represented by ꝥ A765 LATIN SMALL LETTER THORN WITH STROKE from Unicode 5.1.

The letters with triple acute can be represented with ◌᫋ 1ACB COMBINING TRIPLE ACUTE ACCENT: a᫋, æ᫋, e᫋, i᫋, o᫋, u᫋.

Letters with superscript letters can be represented with combining mark characters: cͨ 0368 COMBINING LATIN SMALL LETTER C, dͩ 0369 COMBINING LATIN SMALL LETTER D or ꝺᷘ 1DD8 COMBINING LATIN SMALL LETTER INSULAR D, mͫ 036B COMBINING LATIN SMALL LETTER M, iᷠ and nᷠ 1DE0 COMBINING LATIN SMALL LETTER N, ᵹᫌ 1ACC COMBINING LATIN SMALL LETTER INSULAR G, ꞃᫍ 1ACD COMBINING LATIN SMALL LETTER INSULAR R, tͭ 036D COMBINING LATIN SMALL LETTER T or ꞇᫎ 1ACE COMBINING LATIN SMALL LETTER INSULAR T.

Other letters used at the time can be represented with the following Unicode characters: The et abbreviation can be represented by ⁊ ‎204A TIRONIAN SIGN ET and ⹒ ‎2E52 TIRONIAN SIGN CAPITAL ET. The ae can be represented by 00E6 LATIN SMALL LETTER AE. The long s can be represented by ſ‎ 017F LATIN SMALL LETTER LONG S. The thorn and eth for [θ] or [ð] can be represented by þ 00FE LATIN SMALL LETTER THORN and ð 00F0 LATIN SMALL LETTER ETH respetcively. The wynn for [w] can be represented by ƿ ‎01BF LATIN LETTER WYNN from Unicode 1.1.
